There has been confusion about the Oman visa in 2026. In February Azerbaijan granted Omani citizens a one-year visa-free regime, and on many sites the news spread as «citizens of Azerbaijan travel to Oman visa-free». That is not true: the decision is unilateral and applies only to Omanis coming to Azerbaijan. Everyone going to Muscat on an Azerbaijani passport obtains an online eVisa as before. The good part is that this is one of the easiest visas in the Gulf: no embassy, no fingerprints, and a reply in 1–3 working days.
In this article we explain the eVisa types and fees, the steps of the application, the documents, the flight options from Baku to Muscat and Oman’s own travel rules.
An Oman visa: types and fees
| Visa type | Online tourist eVisa, the Royal Oman Police portal |
| 10 days, single entry | 5 rials, around 22 manats |
| 30 days, single entry | 20 rials, around 88 manats |
| 1 year, multiple entry | 50 rials, 30 days per entry |
| Processing time | 1–3 working days |
| Passport | Valid for at least 6 months |
| Direct flight | SalamAir flights temporarily suspended; via Doha or Dubai |
How is an Oman visa obtained online?
The application is made only on the official portal of the Royal Oman Police: you open an account, choose the tourist visa type, upload a scan of your passport and a photograph, and pay the fee by card. The confirmation comes by email and a printed copy or the one on your phone is shown at the border. The official portal is the eVisa page of the Royal Oman Police; the intermediary sites that come up in an «Oman visa» search sell the same visa for two or three times as much.
One subtlety: the 30-day visa can be extended once inside the country by another 30 days, while the 10-day visa cannot be extended. For a week-long trip take the 10-day option and for two weeks or a desert route the 30-day one. The visa is valid for 30 days from the date of issue, which is to say apply 1–2 weeks before the trip, not a month.

Documents for an Oman visa
A bank statement, an employment letter and an invitation are not required. There is one exception: those with a valid Schengen, US, British, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa in their passport can enter Oman visa-free for up to 14 days. If you have such a visa, there is no need to pay for the 10-day eVisa; just make sure that visa is valid throughout the trip.
What do they ask at the border?
That the passport is valid for at least 6 months is checked seriously in Oman. The eVisa confirmation, a return ticket and a hotel booking may be asked for. Oman is one of the quietest and safest countries in the Gulf and the border crossing usually takes 10–15 minutes. You can also cross into Oman overland from Dubai: via the Hatta and Al Ain crossings it is 4–5 hours to Muscat, the eVisa is valid at the land crossings too, and when crossing in a hire car you need Omani insurance and the hire company’s permission.

How do you fly from Baku to Muscat?
SalamAir has temporarily suspended its direct Baku–Muscat flights because of airspace restrictions in the region and no resumption is planned before the end of October 2026. At present people fly to Muscat with Qatar Airways via Doha and with flydubai and Emirates via Dubai, and the whole journey takes 6–8 hours. Air ticket to Muscat prices rise in the winter season, especially over the Christmas and Novruz holidays; the best weather for Oman is October–April.
Oman is the opposite of Dubai: no tall buildings, but the Hajar mountains, the Wadi Shab canyon, the Wahiba desert and Salalah’s green season. Oman tour programmes usually gather Muscat and a mountain and desert camp into one week, and the eVisa is included in the package.
Things to know before the trip
- Money. The Omani rial is the most expensive currency in the Gulf, 1 rial is around 4.4 manats. Cards work everywhere.
- Season. October–April; in summer it is 45 degrees. In Salalah July-August is the monsoon season and everything turns green.
- Car hire. The main way of seeing Oman is by car, and for the wadis and the desert a 4×4 is needed. An Azerbaijani driving licence is accepted.
- Dress. It is a conservative country, and in mosques and villages shoulders and knees must be covered.
- Medicines. Some painkillers and sedatives are banned, so carry prescription medicines with the prescription.
Frequently asked questions about the Oman visa
Can citizens of Azerbaijan go to Oman visa-free?
As a general rule no. The visa-free regime granted in February 2026 is for Omanis coming to Azerbaijan and is not reciprocal. The only exception is for those with a valid Schengen, US, British, Canadian, Australian or Japanese visa, who can stay 14 days visa-free.
Can you cross to Dubai on an Oman visa and come back?
The 10 and 30-day visas are single entry: to leave Oman and return you need a new visa or the 1-year multiple-entry visa. Citizens of Azerbaijan enter the UAE visa-free.
Do you have to go to the Omani embassy in Baku?
No. The tourist visa is issued online only, and the embassy deals with work and long-term visas.
