The first surprise for anyone applying for a Netherlands visa is this: there is a Dutch embassy in Baku, but visa documents do not go there — they go to Capago, the French embassy’s centre. The second surprise is how the Dutch treat paperwork: the hotel booking and the return ticket must be confirmed, not merely «reserved». People who do not know these two things either go to the wrong address or get refused.
This article explains where and how to apply, the fees, the document requirements, how to time an application for the Keukenhof tulip season and the flight options from Baku to Amsterdam.

Why the application goes through Capago
The Netherlands does not run a Schengen visa section at its embassy in Baku, and for short-stay visas it is represented in Azerbaijan by France. The French embassy in turn has delegated document intake to Capago. So an Azerbaijani traveller heading to Amsterdam books an appointment on the Capago site, hands in the documents there, and the French consulate decides on behalf of the Netherlands. The rule is set out formally on the Dutch government’s visa page for Azerbaijan.
One detail: the Netherlands has to be your main destination. If you spend two days in Amsterdam and five in Paris, the visa is requested for France, not the Netherlands. The consulate looks at where you spend the most days, not where you first enter.

Documents for a Netherlands visa
What sets the Netherlands apart is its strictness: the free-cancellation booking other embassies accept is sometimes treated as weak here. Make the booking paid, or at least confirmed with card details, while keeping the cancellation terms.

Keukenhof season: when to start
Most trips to Amsterdam fall in tulip season, the eight weeks from late March to mid-May. The Keukenhof gardens are open only then, and appointments at Capago get scarce in February and March. Starting in January for an April trip is normal. Summer and the Christmas market season are busy too; November and February are the quietest.
How to fly from Baku to Amsterdam
There is no direct flight. Amsterdam is reached with Turkish Airlines and Pegasus via Istanbul, Lufthansa via Frankfurt and Austrian Airlines via Vienna, taking 7 to 9 hours in total. Baku–Amsterdam fares rise in tulip season and in summer; November to February are the cheapest months. Buy the ticket once the visa is in hand — a confirmed reservation is enough for the application.
Amsterdam is rarely visited alone: Brussels is two hours away by train and Paris three. Benelux itineraries put Amsterdam, Brussels and Luxembourg on a single visa, which is requested for whichever country you sleep in most.
Frequently asked questions about the Netherlands visa
How long does it take?
Ten days under the EU–Azerbaijan agreement, up to 15 in high season. Together with the Capago appointment, count on three to five weeks.
Can you travel on to other Schengen countries?
Yes, a Schengen visa covers the whole area. The Netherlands simply has to be your main destination.
What causes most refusals?
Vague bookings and thin financial documents. Hotels and tickets must be precise for every day, and the bank statement must show you can comfortably afford the trip.
In closing
The Netherlands visa comes from the French embassy through Capago, and the key to success is confirmed paperwork. The Viza.az team books the Capago appointment and prepares bookings and financial documents to the Dutch standard.
