The Thailand visa picture changed for citizens of Azerbaijan on 15 September 2026. For two years you could enter Thailand visa-free for 60 days; Thailand then reviewed that regime for 65 countries and moved Azerbaijan, along with Belarus and Serbia, into the visa-on-arrival group. Now you get a 15-day visa at the airport in Bangkok or Phuket for 2,000 baht. Anything longer needs an eVisa obtained online in advance.
This article explains the new rule, the conditions attached to the visa on arrival, the 60-day eVisa, the compulsory TDAC form and the flight options from Baku to Bangkok.
Thailand visa: what changed
| Before | 60 days visa-free |
| From 15 September | Visa on arrival, 15 days, 2,000 baht |
| For longer trips | Online eVisa, 60 days, about 1,400 baht |
| Asked at the border | Onward ticket within 15 days, hotel, 10,000 baht in cash |
| TDAC form | Compulsory for everyone, online up to 3 days before arrival |
| Passport | At least 6 months’ validity |
| Direct flights | None; via Doha, Dubai or Istanbul |
How the visa on arrival works
Visas on arrival are issued at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, at Phuket, Chiang Mai and other designated entry points. At the counter you fill in a form, provide a photograph, pay 2,000 baht in cash, and a 15-day visa goes into your passport. The officer may ask for a ticket out of Thailand within 15 days, a hotel booking and the equivalent of 10,000 baht in cash per person; without them the risk of being turned back is real. This visa cannot be extended, and while 15 days is enough for Phuket and Bangkok, it is thin for island-hopping.

The 60-day eVisa
Anyone staying longer than a fortnight applies for a tourist visa on Thailand’s official eVisa portal before travelling: a 60-day single-entry visa, a fee of about 1,400 baht or 40 dollars, and an answer in 5 to 10 working days. Applications from citizens of Azerbaijan are handled by the Thai embassy in Ankara, which is the office you select on the portal. Documents are uploaded online: passport scan, photograph, flight reservation, hotel booking and a bank statement. The official address is the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ eVisa portal; middleman sites sell the same visa at twice the price.
TDAC: separate from the visa, but compulsory
Since May 2025 every foreign visitor to Thailand must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card — the TDAC — online, no more than three days before arrival. It is free: you enter passport, flight and hotel details and show the QR code at the border. It does not replace the visa, but without it you are sent back from the queue. It is required of those getting a visa on arrival too.

How to fly from Baku to Bangkok
There is no direct flight. People reach Bangkok and Phuket with Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates and flydubai via Dubai, or Turkish Airlines via Istanbul; the journey takes 11 to 14 hours in total. Baku–Bangkok fares rise in December and January and over the Novruz holiday, while May, June and September are the cheaper months. Phuket is also reached by a 90-minute domestic flight from Bangkok.
Over the New Year holiday Thailand is the long-haul destination most sold out of Azerbaijan; on a New Year tour to Thailand the 15-day visa on arrival is enough, and for longer programmes the operator arranges the eVisa in advance.
Frequently asked questions about the Thailand visa
Can the 15 days on arrival be extended?
No, a visa on arrival cannot be extended. If you are staying longer than 15 days, get the eVisa beforehand; that one can be extended by 30 days at an immigration office in Thailand.
Is a visa on arrival issued at land borders, from Malaysia for instance?
Only at designated crossings and a limited number of times a year. Anyone planning to enter overland from Malaysia or Cambodia is safer with an eVisa.
Can the 2,000 baht be paid by card?
No, only cash baht is accepted. There is an exchange desk at the airport but the rate is poor; bringing a small amount of baht or withdrawing from the first ATM works out better.
In closing
A Thailand visa is now required: 2,000 baht on arrival for trips of up to two weeks, an online eVisa for anything longer, and the TDAC form in both cases. Do not set off on the old 60-days-visa-free information. The Viza.az team helps with the eVisa application, the TDAC form and planning the trip.
