Lithuania visa: the embassy or the visa centre? Fees, documents and the Baltic route

Lithuania takes visa applications at two places in Baku: at the embassy itself and at the Lithuanian visa centre on Khojaly Avenue. That is a rare convenience among Schengen countries. What is more, the Lithuanian embassy also represents Finland in Azerbaijan, so the same door serves applications for both Vilnius and Helsinki.

This article explains how to apply, the costs, the documents, Lithuania’s place on the Baltic route and the flight options from Baku to Vilnius.

How to apply

You book an appointment online, hand the documents to the visa centre or the embassy, give fingerprints and pay the fee. Going through the centre adds the service charge; applying at the embassy does not, but slots there are more limited. The embassy accepts applications from citizens of Azerbaijan and from third-country nationals permanently resident here. The official rules are on the Lithuanian embassy’s visa page.

Documents for a Lithuania visa

Lithuania is also chosen for business trips from Azerbaijan: Vilnius is a technology and logistics hub, and the invitation letter should be specific about the event’s name and dates.

How to get from Baku to Vilnius

There is no direct flight. Vilnius is reached with Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, LOT via Warsaw and airBaltic via Riga, taking 7 to 9 hours in total. Baku–Vilnius tickets sit in the middle of the Baltic range. Kaunas is an hour from Vilnius by train, and the Curonian Spit four hours away via Klaipeda.

For those combining Lithuania with Poland there is a Vilnius–Warsaw train, and both are in Schengen. Baltic tour programmes start in Vilnius and finish in Riga and Tallinn; on such a trip the visa comes from the country with the most nights.

Frequently asked questions about the Lithuania visa

How long does it take?

Up to 15 days. With the appointment, the whole process runs three to four weeks.

Embassy or visa centre — which is better?

Appointments are easier to find at the visa centre, but there is a service charge. The embassy has no charge, though slots are scarcer. In a hurry, use the centre; watching costs, use the embassy.

Can you cross into Belarus?

Belarus admits citizens of Azerbaijan without a visa, and the Lithuania–Belarus land border is open to third-country nationals, but the crossing is slow and unpredictable. Flying to Belarus direct from Baku is easier.

In closing

The Lithuania visa is straightforward to obtain in Baku from either the embassy or the visa centre, and the same door serves Finland. The Viza.az team books the appointment, prepares the documents and plans the Baltic route.
