The turquoise bay at Ksamil on the Albanian coast, seen from above — visa for Albania

Visa-free travel

Albania Visa

Visa-free entry with a stay of up to 90 days.

Azerbaijani citizens do not need a visa in advance to travel to Albania. Under the bilateral agreement you may stay in the country for up to 90 days on an ordinary passport. A valid passport is enough at the border, but make sure it still has at least six months left on it.

Border officers may ask for a return ticket, a hotel booking or proof that you can support yourself for the length of the trip. If you want to stay longer than 90 days, work or study, this arrangement is not enough and you will need to apply separately for a residence permit.

Albania has grown popular fast in recent years thanks to its Adriatic and Ionian coasts and destinations such as Tirana and Ksamil. As there are no direct flights, the route is usually built through Istanbul or a European city. The Viza.az team helps plan flights, hotels and transfers, and we recommend arranging travel insurance separately.

Visa to Albania: frequently asked questions

No. Azerbaijani citizens can travel visa-free on an ordinary passport and stay in the country for up to 90 days. No visa obtained in advance is required at the border.

The period is counted as the total stay within a 180-day window. If you enter and leave several times, the days add up. Going over the limit can cause problems on future trips.

Most often a return ticket, a hotel booking and a document showing you can support yourself for the trip. These are not always required, but having them to hand makes the crossing easier.

At least six months of remaining validity is recommended. If the period is short, the border service may refuse entry.

The visa-free arrangement does not cover that. For a longer stay, work or study a residence permit must be obtained — that is a separate procedure.

There are no direct flights from Baku. The route is usually built through Istanbul or European cities. Depending on the transfer country a transit visa may be required — check that in advance.

Under the visa-free arrangement insurance is not an official requirement, but medical costs stay with you. We recommend taking out insurance even for a short trip.

As no visa is needed, our focus is the route: flights, hotels, transfers and insurance. On connecting flights we also check the transit conditions.
