Business owners submit a copy of the tax registration, a turnover certificate from the tax office and a register extract instead; students submit a letter from their institution.

Visa to Italy: frequently asked questions

In Baku, Italian applications are accepted by the VFS Global visa centre. The documents are handed in there, the biometrics are taken and the passport is returned after the decision. The appointment is booked through the online system.

The consular fee is 35 euros and the VFS Global service charge is 21 euros — one of the lowest tariffs among the Schengen visa centres. The Viza.az service fee is 95 AZN. Payments are made in manats at the rate confirmed by the embassy.

The official period is 15 calendar days from the date of application. In practice, when the documents are complete and the season is quiet, the reply can come sooner. In the summer months the period stretches.

A valid passport, an application form, two photos, a hotel booking, return tickets, medical insurance with at least 30,000 euros of cover, a letter from your employer and a bank statement for the last 3 to 6 months. If the route covers several cities, a booking must be submitted for each place of stay.

Only if Italy is the main destination — that is, if you will spend the most nights there. If the time is divided equally, you apply to the country you enter first. If this rule is broken, you may be asked to explain yourself at the border.

A cruise route involves entering several Schengen countries, so a multiple-entry visa may be required. The cruise company’s confirmation and the full itinerary must be added to the document file.

No, there is a single application for Italy and the visa covers the whole country. The difference by city shows only in the itinerary and accommodation documents.

Checking the documents first, drawing up an individual list, planning the VFS Global appointment and completing the form are down to us. If the route covers several countries, we also work out which country it is right to apply to.
