Visa-free travel

Iran Visa

Visa-free entry with a stay of up to 15 days.

Iran grants Azerbaijani citizens visa-free entry unilaterally. On an ordinary passport you may stay for up to 15 days. That is one of the shortest periods on the list, so plan the trip around it.

If you want to extend your stay or remain longer than 15 days, a visa must be arranged in advance. At the border you may be asked for a return ticket and an address of stay; queues at land crossings can grow depending on the season.

Tabriz is chosen for trade and short family visits, Mashhad for pilgrimage routes. Transport options include bus, private car and plane. Viza.az builds a route that fits the 15-day limit and compares the transport options.

Visa to Iran: frequently asked questions

A return ticket and an address of stay. You may also be asked about the purpose of your trip.

The queue at the Astara and Julfa crossings varies with the season. On public holidays and in the summer months the wait can stretch considerably — plan the trip accordingly.

Tabriz is close to the border and is chosen for short trade or family trips. Mashhad is further away and is usually planned as a pilgrimage route — domestic transport has to be allowed for there.

International bank cards do not work inside the country. You need to travel with cash and work out the budget in advance.

The remaining validity of the passport must not be less than six months — this is checked carefully at land border crossings.
