Visa to Austria: frequently asked questions

In Baku, Austrian applications are accepted by the VFS Global visa centre. The documents are handed in there, fingerprints and a photo are taken, and the passport is returned once the decision is made. The appointment is booked through the centre’s online system.

The consular fee is 35 euros and the VFS Global service charge is 21 euros. The Viza.az service fee is 95 AZN. Insurance, translation and photos are not included in these amounts.

Between December and March demand for the Tyrol and Salzburg ski resorts rises sharply and appointments become hard to find. If you are planning a ski trip, start the application at least two months ahead. A resort booking strengthens the document file.

There is no separate visa category; you travel on an ordinary tourist visa. But it is important to check that your insurance covers winter sports — standard travel insurance does not always cover skiing injuries.

Yes, a Schengen visa gives access to the whole zone. The condition is that Austria must be your main destination — that is, you spend most of your nights there. If your itinerary leans more towards Germany, it is right to apply to Germany.

A minimum of 30,000 euros, valid across the whole Schengen zone. The insurance must be continuously in force from the first to the last day of the trip. Unsuitable insurance is one of the most common reasons for refusal.

A formal invitation from the organiser, confirmation of registration and a travel order from your employer. If the company is covering the costs, a letter confirming this should be attached too. In business applications the consistency between documents matters particularly.

We check the documents first, draw up an individual list, plan the VFS Global appointment and help fill in the form. In the winter season we start looking for an appointment earlier.
